yes, we went to NYC in July..... to celebrate my wonderful mother's birthday. (She looks WAY younger than her new age may seem to imply). It was very hot.
We arrived on Friday and took the train into Brooklyn where my brother and Misty live. They are fortunate to live right across the street from the newest "hottest pizza spot in NY". It's so new and cool that most people still think the best is the old guy way out in Brooklyn's place. Roy said even Jay Z has been to this place. It's Zagats top pick this year?....or last year. So, since they live across the street....Roy got our name first on the list. Everyone else just waits and waits in a line outside the door. The place is really small and one 30 something Italian looking guy makes all the pizza. He does this while looking around at his guests for the evening. All they serve is pie and soda.
Next, it was off to the city to see Jersey Boys. I felt like I was on a trip to Grandma's in the back of Dad's car. Good times. My brother said it was a "man's musical". That Frank Valli guy really earns his keep keeping his voice so high through the whole thing. Our seats were the best in the house.(....thanks to some hook-up my dad got through a guy at his work whose kids works on the set!) I am glad I finally know what "Walk Like a Man" means! I may even be able to do some of the dance moves.
Saturday the boys set out to a Yankees game. Jason is no longer a hater....still not a lover though. (He had his chance to back out.....he knew before we got married....we have a Yankees Christmas ornament on our tree!) They had to do some shady business in order to get in....the tickets my brother ordered didn't quite come through. Jason got to see the new stadium across the street and experience the train ride which quickly becomes a sea of navy and white....some with pinstripes.
We girls went shopping. I enjoy going in all the stores that are unique to NYC. My cousin Gracie met us for that. So mom and I were in good hands......Misty works at Versace and Gracie is a dresser for Gossip Girl.
That night, we truly celebrated Mom's birthday at the River Cafe in Brooklyn. It overlooks the NYC skyline and has amazing views. It was neat to see the new artistic "waterfalls" that now live along the water. We all had great food and enjoyed each others company. FYI: the River Cafe is no longer on the "hot list"....but it is a classic spot with breathtaking views.
Sunday we did a double-decker bus tour around the city. We had another great meal and then walked around Central Park. Then, back to NC!
It was fun taking Jason. I am glad we have such a great tour guide in the family. We hope they don't move back to NC too soon......we want to come back again. It is fun exploring new places every time we go.
